WHY ONLINE LEARNING IS GOOD FOR YOUR CHILD

  • Are you unsure about online courses?
  • Do you wonder if online learning is right for your child?
  • Do you have questions about the value of online courses?

Dr. Byers: "I've been teaching online courses to college    students at the bachelor's and master's levels for 15    years and to homeschooled students for 5 years, so you    can rest assured that I can honestly tell you that having    your child get experience with online learning during    high school is very beneficial for college and life."

Here are just some of the benefits online learning    provides to you and your child:

  • Students learn how to succeed in online courses, which are being increasingly used by many colleges and universities.
  • Students learn to learn independently utilizing a variety of resources to acquire information.
  • Students learn the importance of time management in order to meet the expectations of teachers other than their parents.
  • Students learn and practice the ever-important skill of communicating in writing.
  • Students learn to use critical thinking skills, ask questions, and problem solve.
  • Students learn to accept feedback from other educators besides their parents, which gives parents a break from being the teacher for a while!

Advantages of Dr. Byers' Courses

I offer many advantages that other companies and         instructors do not or cannot offer because my         focus is not about making money or building a         company and hiring others to do what I do!

My focus is to personally serve
your family's educational needs
with affordable, quality courses!

  • YOUR CHILD CAN START ANY OF MY COURSES  AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR:

Your child can begin courses at any time during the        year. If you want to have your child start courses              in the traditional Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters,        you can.

If you need to wait to start a course due to your        child's learning and/or activity schedule, we can        begin courses on any week and month that works        best for you!

  • MULTIPLE SUBJECTS OFFERED IN ONE PLACE:

Students can earn the required credits in English,         Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences without ever         having to leave home!

  • NUMEROUS COURSE OPTIONS IN EACH SUBJECT:

For each subject there are multiple courses                 from which to choose to meet your child's interests         and needs.

I will also custom create courses just for your         child's needs and interests, upon request, as long         as I feel comfortable and competent with the         subject matter.

  • A QUALITY EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

You can rely on your child getting a quality         education in each of my courses as I have what         many other programs and teachers don't have--         teaching and learning expertise from advanced         degrees in the field of education and many years of         teaching students in class and online, as well as         teaching experiences at every level from preschool         to homeschool to grad school!

  • NO SPECIFIC DAY OR TIME TO BE ONLINE:

Students don't have to be "online" at a specific day         or time as I work with each student individually and         asynchronously via email.

  • DR. BYERS IS THE ONLY EDUCATOR & ADMINISTRATOR:

-I develop all of my courses and I teach all of my
        students!

-When you sign your child up for my courses, I am         the one serving your family's educational needs.

-Your child's needs are important, so I work with         you and your child directly and individually.

-I don't pass your child off to someone else to          teach. I am your child's teacher!

-I don't pass your needs as a parent off to a staff
member. I serve your needs myself.

-I'm here for you whenever you need help.

-Anytime you have questions or need help, I'm         the only one you need to contact.

-If you want to see how your child is doing, email         me at any time. I also am happy to set up         appointments for conversations by phone!

-If you want me to copy you on my emails to your         child, just ask! I'm happy to help!

  • FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING TO MEET YOUR NEEDS:
The courses and semesters are set around YOUR            schedule, not mine. Need time off for school         activities, sports, or just a vacation? Just tell me         what you need and I'll arrange the schedule         accordingly. Or, when something comes up, just let         me know and I'll work around your needs.

  • NO EXPENSIVE BOOKS OR MATERIALS TO PURCHASE:

I create all of my course materials and supplement         them with authoritative online resources to help         your child develop vital learning skills, including               research, reading, writing, and critical thinking         skills.

The only materials I do not provide are the books         for the literature and Great Books courses and the         DVDs for movie courses. Families can purchase         these items on their own or they can borrow them         from their local library, family, or friends!

  • HIGHLY-AFFORDABLE COURSES

One-semester courses (15 weeks) earn students         1/2 credit and cost a total of $75.

Two-semester courses (30 weeks) earn students           credit and cost a total of $150.

When you stop to figure it out, each class costs         just $5 per week for one-on-one teaching with a         highly-educated professor with extensive         experience in developing and teaching courses at         all levels.

  • NO EXTRA OR HIDDEN CHARGES EVER!

Why are my courses so affordable? I create and        teach the courses myself. What I do, I do in part as a        service to support the needs of homeschooling        families everywhere.

Writing Composition, English and/or American  literature, general literature (Great Books), poetry, creative         writing, etc.

  •   4 credits/years in Social Sciences in courses, such as:

History, Geography, and Current Events. Most schools require incoming  students to have completed at least one
credit in U.S.  Government or U.S. History.

  • 3-4 credits/years in Natural Sciences in courses, such as:

Earth Science,  Biology, Astronomy, Meteorology, Chemistry, etc. with at least one course that has a lab
        component.

  •   3-4 credits/years in Mathematics with courses such as:

Algebra 1, Geometry, and  Algebra 2 being the typical courses required. In some cases,Trigonometry or other

Some schools specify the languages they  will accept, such as Spanish or French. Some schools will accept  other
      languages, including sign language.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It's best to check with the colleges/universities your child might want to attend to determine the     specific requirements they have with regard to a student taking foreign language courses in high school. For     homeschooled high school students applying for admission to a college or university, along with the student's     transcripts listing which courses were completed, the school may ask for details relative to how the student     engaged in conversation (speaking and listening) with someone who speaks the language fluently.
